Cemintel™ launches new water blocking technology for Wallboard

In a global first, Cemintel™ Fibre Cement Systems has developed a new waterblocking technology that is embedded into its fibre cement products reducing the amount water being absorbed into the sheet and ensuring stronger joints and less risk.

CeminSeal™ is a new family of products that offers sustainable advantages over standard fibre cement. The big point of difference is all CeminSeal™ products will now be manufactured using the new patented waterblocking technology that reduces the amount of water penetrating the board, ensuring less call backs and increased peace of mind.

CeminSeal™ Wallboard will be the first product launched in the range commencing in July. The new board is hydrophobic and vapour permeable, meaning it repels water yet allows the sheet to breathe. The waterblocking technology makes the board more stable, easier to cut and dramatically reduces sheet movement.

Cemintel’s General Manager, Drew Spiden, is extremely proud of the work his team has accomplished to achieve this industry breakthrough.

“A lot of people in our business have spent a number of years working on the development of this new process. It is a clear step change for the fibre cement industry globally, given the benefits it delivers. This is an absolute elevation on what is in the market at this time.”

Mr Spiden said CeminSeal™ was developed as a result of ongoing feedback from contractors and builders in the market.

“One of the most commonly referred to issues in the fibre cement market is joints and the strength of a particular joint, be it external or internal. What we have achieved with CeminSeal™ Wallboard is 95 percent stronger joint and compound adhesion, ensuring fewer callbacks and less risk.

“The new embedded technology is a part of the manufacturing process at Cemintel’s Australian factory, giving longer lasting protection and performance,” Mr Spiden said.

Available for both residential and commercial applications, Cemintel™ Product Manager, Emma Young, says CeminSeal™ Wallboard is more durable and easier to work with than existing wallboard products.

“CeminSeal™ is actually different in that it provides stronger joints, better compound adhesion and better paint absorption and an overall better substrate.

“It can be painted as normal and the waterblocking technology actually assists the paint adhesion, making it easier and faster to be applied,” Ms Young said.

Cemintel has extensively researched and tested the new CeminSeal™ range both independently and throughout the market.

“As well as testing the CeminSeal™ range in research and development labs, we have also been engaging a number of external suppliers throughout the manufacturing process to ensure we deliver the highest quality wallboard product on the market,” Mr Spiden said.

The installation process of CeminSeal™ has not changed from standard wallboard. The same method still applies with the added bonus of quicker and easier installation due to easier cutting, better setting times of compounds and greater paint adhesion.

Aimed at builders, contractors and developers, CeminSeal™ Wallboard is tinted yellow with a distinct face print to ensure it is easily identified in the market. The new CeminSeal™ Wallboard will be available from late July 2009 through selected resellers.
