Key Features
Cemintel Smooth Plank is a small range of wide overlapping Fibre Cement (FC) weatherboards. Wide weatherboards cover more wall so there are fewer to install. These large FC weatherboards aren’t overly heavy because they’re less than half the thickness of Balmoral weatherboards.
In the early days of cellulose fibre cement, driving a nail through thick FC was difficult. As a result, product thickness was limited to less than 9 mm.
Fibre cement formulations have advanced over time. Contemporary weatherboards made from advanced fibre cement are up to 16mm thick. They benefit from a deep shadow line which gives walls depth, while still being nailable.
Smooth Plank Weatherboards are a familiar style of wall cladding that Australians have built with for decades. They’re a likely match for old homes which are being repaired, remodeled or extended.

Smooth Plank Weatherboards Information
Smooth Plank Sizes:
- 230 x 4200 x 7.5 mm weatherboards. A 25mm overlap leaves 205 mm visible after installation. The effective cover is 0.86 of a square meter per piece.
- 300 x 4200 x 7.5mm weatherboards. A 25mm overlap leaves 275 mm visible after installation. That’s 80% wider than a conventional FC Weatherboard (like Balmoral or Scarborough weatherboards). The effective cover is large 1.15 of a square meter
per piece.
Smooth Plank weatherboards are made from durable fibre cement sheets which are cut into weatherboard sizes. They have no decorative rebate, arris edge and they don’t need to be back-beveled. They’re simply a square edged board with a smooth surface.
They’re the most cost-effective product in Cemintel’s weatherboard range. That makes them more of a functional external wall choice than an aesthetic one. That means, they’re good choice for cladding backyard sheds and garages.
Smooth Plank Weatherboards Installation
Smooth plank weatherboards can be nailed to timber or screwed to steel frames with up to 600mm stud spacing.
They can be fixed using a stud clip accessory to speed up installation. The stud clip is a metal bracket which sets the 25mm board overlap. It also takes the weight of the plank prior to fixing to enable single person installation.
They’re deemed suitable for use in applications where non-combustible materials are specified. As per the National Construction Code Volume One clause C2D1 Deemed-to-Satisfy Provisions (6) (d).
Suitable for Bushfire Attack Level up to BAL-29 when constructed in accordance with AS3959.
